Crest Chicken Sulu Jaba Competition 2013
This year's sulu jaba winner Amelia Koroiadi said she was confident of winning the best sulu jaba design this year.
Mrs Koroiadi said she was glad her husband had motivated her to participate in the competition after seeing the advertisement in The Fiji Times newspaper a few months back.
"My design was made with the help of my neighbour and a friend, and it only took us two weeks to design," Mrs Koroiadi said.
"It was easy designing the jaba because I normally wear jaba every day to work.
"I was inspired to create something that was different and elegant."
She said she would also participate in next year's sulu jaba competition to empower women to wear the traditional sulu jaba more.
Judge Bernadette Rounds Ganilau said the competition actually empowered women to wear the traditional outfit and also design and sew their own outfits.
Fiji Fashion Week managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight said she hoped the designers learned something from the competition and that they took something back with them.
Third prize for the competition went to Sera Nasiga Savou and second prize to Taufa Rabukawaqa.
