EMERGING designer Riddhi Damodar launched her first self-titled collection last night in Suva, paying tribute to her family, supporters and business team for bringing her vision to life.
After months of preparation, Mrs Damodar said her garments were presented to an exclusive audience last night.
"My designs focus on high quality fabric and bold coloured prints but not limited just to prints as I am also working on my own colour palate for the season," said the 27-year-old wife of Damodar Brothers Group CEO Div Damodar.
She said her daughter, Dimani, was the real inspiration behind the establishment of Dimani House of Fashion.
Originally from India, Riddhi was born and raised in Gujarat. She was exposed to the public eye from an early age, winning gold medal in sports and later working as a TV anchor presenter.
Mrs Damodar said encouragement from her husband, in-laws, friends and mentor Ellen Whippy-Knight was overwhelming.
This year, Mrs Damodar plans to represent Dimani House of Fashion in the emerging designer's category at the MHCC Fiji Fashion Week 2013.
"I feel it's a really good platform for any designer to showcase their creations in a fashion week. As we all know FJFW has been a very important part of the local fashion industry and I have the utmost respect for Ellen Whippy-Knight who has been doing a wonderful job," she said.
"I wan to experience the atmosphere and learn how it all happens in fashion week. It's going to be challenging and I have to work really hard but I'm ready for that.
"I am looking foward to that particular experience."
She said the launch last night was for nine designs from her cocktail and evening wear collection. This, she said, was different from the designs she would showcase at the MHCC Fiji Fashion Week 2013.
"I'm going out of my comfort zone and focusing on resort wear," she said.
