FIJI'S textile, clothing and footwear industry is working with Fiji Fashion Week to take local designs to another level.

And according to Mark One Apparel managing director Mark Halabe, Fiji Fashion Week had changed the industry in the past eight years.

However, he said, more effort was needed from aspiring designers.

"What I've seen is that these aspiring designers don't know how to cut, sew, are grossly undercapitalised but they want to be designers," he said at the Fiji Institute of Accountants congress in Sigatoka yesterday.

Those designers, he said, needed to gain tertiary qualifications in Fiji before taking their aim to the next level.

The qualification, he said, would help designers with designing, details about fabrics, merchandises and the marketplace.

He said his vision was to turn the fashion industry in the country in to a successful sector.
