THE need to have more manufacturers specialising in fashion is something Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) hopes to develop over the next couple of years.
FJFW managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight said the manufacturers would entice new investors, both local and overseas.
Mrs Whippy-Knight said Fiji could have a world-class fashion industry if people united and supported them in this venture.
She said Fiji had the combination of a unique export potential, the natural beauty and setting of our country and the availability of a market filled with raw talent waiting to be trained.
"If we want an international profile, linkage between industries is pivotal, example; a locally designed swimwear range used in FIJI Water's international marketing and advertising campaign, and shot in Fiji," Mrs Whippy-Knight said.
She said local talents needed the support of the industries based in Fiji.
"We need to find designers who are interested in making it a career so that we can help develop them and get them recognised overseas."
