IN conjunction with the Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) show next week, the Fiji National University (FNU) will also organise a number of activities to promote fashion and designs on the local circuit.

As part of its support for the FJFW, the university will take about 300 high school students in the Central Division to Rewa next Tuesday to educate them on design work, among other things.

"FNU will also provide support to FJFW in various forms. However, one important aspect of its sponsorship this year is the engagement of a fashion and design guru from Australia, Nicholas Huxley," FNU acting vice-chancellor Professor Ian Rouse said.

"Mr Huxley is an international award winning fashion designer and teacher and he will be travelling with two of his students to Fiji for this event.

"Their trip to Fiji is fully funded by FNU. While in Fiji, the team will work with local designers and also hold a seminar at FNU's UniStudio campus in Raiwai.

"We are bringing them in to come and educate our students and interested individuals. It's going to be fun and from my point of view, fashion and designs are a great opportunity in Fiji.

"This is an area where women particularly, can get involved in and be productive."

Prof Rouse said their support was more focused on the education of young people in terms of fashion and designs.
