MOVES are afoot to introduce fashion design as part of the high school curriculum as well as tertiary education level.

It follows an announcement by Fiji Fashion Week this week to make Fiji Fashion Week the most prominent and celebrated event on Fiji's calendar.

FJFW publicist Jone Tuiipelehaki said steps were being taken to introduce fashion design at the Fiji National University. He said discussions were underway with the Education Ministry.

Since its inception on 2009, FJFW has introduced a series of workshops. The company was established as a precursor to creating a new industry based on fashion and is gearing up for its three main shows next month.

"We are working closely with the Ministry of Education to introduce fashion design into the school curriculum. Plans are also underway for a schools mini fashion week," Mr Tuiipelehaki said.

The mission for FJFW is to create an international fashion event that will foster Pacific fashion and take it to the world to build a meaningful fashion trade while at the same time nurturing creative opportunities.
