MHCC FJFW has revealed for the first time, an international brand ambassador will be coming to Fiji for this year's show which is scheduled for October.

Sponsored by Fiji Airways, renowned international photographer and film-maker Pedro Virgil has been chosen to represent and promote the show locally and internationally.

In a press conference held by the organisation on Wednesday evening, the sponsors were relayed the news by FJFW managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight who said Virgil was in fact a Labasa boy, who grew up in the north of Fiji and now resides in Spain.

"He is also an Australian celebrity and fashion designer who left here (Fiji) when he was a young person and made his name in Australia when he did the 'Gods of Football' calendar and now his work features in many international fashion magazines," Mrs Whippy-Knight said.

FJFW contacted Virgil through his Facebook account and have since continued to stay in touch.

He was given the green light to come for the fashion show when Fiji Airways stepped in and agreed to cater for his airfares.

"Fiji Airways is a big fan and supporter of Fijian creativity and ingenuity in various fields.

"We are delighted to be able to support MHCC Fiji Fashion Week by bringing over Pedro Virgil, who has Fijian roots, to be a key part of this year's event," Fiji Airways said in a statement on Wednesday evening.
