FIJI Fashion Week 2011 (FJFW) got of to a great start in Suva as fashion lovers gathered at TappooCity to soak in what Fiji established designers had to offer.

FJFW which first began in 2008 and has since become a much anticipated event on Suva's social calendar was launched by Miss Universe Australia 2011, Scherri-Lee Biggs.

Ms Biggs said Fiji Fashion Week was an annual event not to be missed and congratulated all the designers and thanked FJFW director Ellen Whippy-Knight and her team.

Echoing the words of many local and foreign fashion observers during her address, Ms Biggs reminded attendees that the fashion industry could be a significant contributor to Fiji's economy, not to mention put Fiji on the world map.

Friday's show saw established designers Ana Rabuka, Robert Kennedy, and Carolyn Ah Koy displaying their collections, some of which were already available in a number of clothing retail outlets around the country.

The collections were well received by a boisterous Suva crowd which included a number of notable personalities, dignitaries, members of the business community, and Suva's social elite.
