FJFW to mark 9th year anniversary

FIJI Fashion Week (FJFW) will this week mark its ninth consecutive year showcasing design collections.

And in the lead-up to its 10th year anniversary in 2017, FJFW managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight says the annual event is expected to draw a massive crowd.

"Following the successful exhibitions at both the Los Angeles and Australian Fashion Week, our designers are pumped up and ready to show you their new collections. There are local and international designers attending and many new designers to look forward to and, of course, our established designers such as Robert Kennedy, Hupfeld Hoerder, and Rachel Fairfax are back too," Ms Whippy-Knight said.

She adds FJFW has come a long way from its humble beginnings with success stories including designers Robert Kennedy and Eeshaal Niranjan who have signed up with LA-based fashion agents as well as the inclusion of Fiji in the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia.

"We have come a very long way. So many new businesses such as boutiques RFX, 8 Mountains, Pacific Island Arts, the Edge all at Palm Court, Shopaholic in the City center the new Pacific Fashion Incubator in Nadi are now all benefiting from the growth of the fashion industry in Fiji."

"A particularly exciting development for FJFW2016 is that we've hired the services of Bold Alliance, a fresh start up entrepreneurship owned by principal manager Tamara Smith and creative director Tavai Bale. Bold Alliance will be the official Event Coordinator for FJFW 2016 and will assist in PR/promotions and marketing/E-marketing," she stated.

"I am very confident this year will be a success for everyone involved, the models, designers, partners and other stakeholders. And I thank all of you who continue to support Fiji Fashion Week each year," Ms Whippy-Knight said.

The five-day 2016 FJFW will take place from September 5.
