FNU sponsores fashion forum
FIJI NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OFFERS FREE FASHION FORUM
STUDENTS of fashion from Fiji secondary schools and universities and followers of fashion design in Fiji will be able to learn free of charge from top international fashion designers at a Forum during the Fiji Fashion Week 2012, at the generosity of the Fiji National University.
FJFW Managing Director made the announcement in Suva today saying the Fashion Forum which brings together designers from Paris, India, New York, Auckland, Brisbane and Nigeria would be fully funded by the Fiji National University where it will be held on Wednesday October 17th.
“Fiji Fashion Week is proud to announce its continuous support of initiatives to enhance educational opportunities for fashion designers and we are honoured that the FNU places priority in this field,” Ms Whippy-Knight said.
“The Fiji National University has always been a proud supporter of Fiji’s fashion industry and their full sponsorship of this event is a clear illustration of their commitment to Fashion education.”
Ms Whippy-Knight said FJFW was grateful to the Embassy of the United States of America, Embassy of France and the New Zealand High Commission for their support and sponsorship of FJFW.
“The International designers coming to FJFW runways are on their way because their respective diplomatic missions have generously funded their trip. These designers are cultural ambassadors of their countries and fashion plays a large part in their economies so we are grateful for the opportunity to learn from them.”
The Fashion Forum starts off the 5th Annual Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW 2012) which includes a charity luncheon in aid of Dilkusha Home and 3 nights of fashion extravaganza.
FJFW’s primary objective is to create a world class fashion week event which helps nurture, develop and promote individual stakeholders in Fiji’s fashion industry. The development of fashion education is an extension of that primary objective. The FNU has partnered with FJFW in the past through the hosting of skills based workshops. The 2012 Fashion Forum however is the first time that renowned fashion designers will be made available to the public at a free event.
In support of the Ministry of Education’s initiative to introduce fashion design into the secondary school Home Economics and Vocational Education curriculum, FJFW is giving away 300 free tickets of the premier fashion events to students of Home Economics..
“Having the FNU step forward to take ownership of the Fashion Forum, taking fashion education to a higher level is an indication of the need for a fashion design institute and the need for stakeholders to work together to nurture this aspect of the Industry as it can lead to a viable form of income for Fiji fashion designers and for the country as a whole.”
Fiji is blessed with not only an outstanding geographical endowment (the land and sea) but also a unique and highly attractive cultural system (the people). Combined, these elements produce an ideal setting for an iconic event such as fashion week. It's "Fashion in Paradise!"
Entry to the Fiji Fashion Forum is free but FJFW urges interested people to register their interest in participating by contacting them on phone number 3301201, as seats are limited.
