Support impresses designer
By Mere Naleba The Fiji Times, Sunday, July 28, 2013 LOCAL designer Anton Conway staged a fashion show on Friday at a popular watering hole in Suva, hoping to raise funds for two of his friends' school fees and to pay for his entry fee in the Fiji Fashion Week show. Mr Conway was impressed with the support from local fans and expatriates who attended the show, which featured guest designer Aisea Konrote and models strutting the catwalk wearing ACW label dresses. "I am so happy with the turnout last night (Friday), firstly the fashion industry has never been really understood by a lot of people in the country," Mr Conway said. "But after the show last night, I am happy knowing that many people support the fashion trade. People are now beginning to see the fashion trade as a career choice." With FJFW show scheduled for October 1-5, Mr Conway managed to collect $500 for his entry fees to the show and to also pay off tuition fees for two of his friends who are studying at the University of the South Pacific — one is studying law and another majoring in biology and chemistry. Also present at the event was Ra lass Veniana Natekuru who was a finalist at the Miss World Australia show. "I will be entering 12 designs during the fashion week, ranging from casual wear to corporate wear," Mr Conway said. "I am planning to stage another show soon, because I now have to meet the people's demand."
